The Steer Clear Driver Education programme is Ireland's only complete system of driver education.
The Steer Clear Driver Education System has been based on International recommendations of
- 20 hours class based driver education followed later by
- 10 hours driving Instruction complimented by
- 40 hours of structured practice with a mentor.
The Steer Clear Course
A 20 hour course structured around NCCA criteria for transition year and available in schools, prisons, and youthreach centres across the country. Developed by education experts from the Irish Drivers Education Association and specifically using Irish road systems, laws, rules and regulations
Targeting attitude and behaviour
Research across Europe and the United States demonstrates that driver education, such as this, that targets behaviour and attitude is the crucial element in reducing the risk of death and injury. Unlike other training courses, Steer Clear concentrates on the attitude and motivation of the driver as well as developing comprehensive practical skills and experience.
The course has been tailored to easily fit into the transition year programme.

There are two ways the deliver the Steer Clear Course in your school or centre
Teacher Delivery
Steer Clear trains a teacher from your school to deliver the programme
- Course delivered to all of TY and/or LCA or other groups
- Once off fee to train staff teacher to deliver the programme
- Comprehensive course resources propived
- Course can be taught to all students without discrimination
- No course fee for Students
- Students only pay the value of their textbooks
- On successful completion students receive
- €100 off 1st Motor Insurance policy & Steer Clear Driver Education Certificate
